R&L's patented BeadTrimmer™ is specifically designed to remove the exterior fusion bead on thermoplastic pipe materials such as HDPE and PVC. Removing the bead does not compromise the integrity of the fused pipe, or affect its pressure rating.
 
BeadTrimmer™ is a Pneumatically powered tool  with a uniquely patented designed blade to remove the external bead quicker,  efficiently and with minimal effort.
 
Key Reasons for External Bead Removal
Aesthetics: For visible applications, like bridge cable covers, removing the bead provides a cleaner, smoother look.
Slip-lining: When inserting a new, smaller HDPE pipe into an existing larger pipe, removing the external bead allows the new pipe to pass through more easily.
Inspection: Removing the external bead is necessary to perform non-destructive testing (NDT) methods, like microwave scanning, to check for fusion defects.
Conduit Systems: In cable conduit work, removing the bead can sometimes reduce material costs by allowing smaller pipes to be used, though this is also a benefit of internal remova
